Invisalign ONLY works when you are wearing them. You should wear your aligners for 20-22 hours a day.

Getting Used to Your Aligners:

  • Soreness is expected in the beginning of treatment. We recommend ibuprofen 600mg-800mg every 6-8 hours. Each week you put in your new aligners, discomfort is expected for the first few days.

Maintaining Oral Hygiene:

  • Brush and floss your teeth before reinserting your aligners. Proper oral hygiene is key to maintaining overall good health.
  • Always rinse and brush before placing aligners back in your mouth.

Taking Care of Your Aligners:

  • Rinse your aligners when you remove them.
  • Use a clear anti-bacterial soft soap and toothbrush to clean your aligners. Brush carefully; vigorous brushing can scratch your aligners.

Eating / Drinking:

  • Do NOT eat or drink (anything but water) while wearing Invisalign. Many foods and drinks can stain or discolor your aligners and cause them to stink.
  • Avoid any hard or crunchy foods. These can cause your attachments to break off of your teeth.
  • Do NOT chew gum with aligners in.

Storing Aligners:

  • Always put your aligners in the case when you are not wearing them to prevent them from getting lost or damaged.
  • NEVER throw away any of your aligners. If for any reason an aligner is not seating correctly, or we did not accomplish the proper movement with that aligner, you may have to back track to the previous aligner for an additional week.

What if I Lose or Break a Tray?

  • Contact the office and we will give you further instructions on what you need to do. We can order you a new set of aligners that should arrive within a few days.
